RPM Cycling wins again in Great Britain
RPM Cycling continues accruing victories in Great Britain thanks to the grit and talent of its junior riders. After amazing sporting feats by Tom Pidcock, reigning World and European Junior Champion in cyclocross who also won the Paris-Roubaix in his class, this weekend it was his team mate, William Tidball, who made headlines.The colour bearer for Team Ph-Mas/Paul Milnes /Oldfield ERT triumphed in round 4 of the British Cycling Junior Road Series, which was held on the roads around Owston, in Leicestershire.
A significant field of athletes lined up at the starting line in Melton Mowbray, with more than 100 riders registered for the race. The race started to heat up early in the second lap out of a scheduled total of five, with William Tidball and Oscar Mingay managing to make a break from the group and gaining a discreet advantage which allowed them to vie for victory in the final sprint. Tidball was able to better manage the race final, passing his fugitive companion in the very last metres at the end of an impressively long sprint. Tom Pidcock, who was also present at the race, placed fourth. In the overall rankings, Mingay has strengthened his leadership thanks to the second place he scored at the end of this round 4, even though Tidball’s victory allowed his team mate Pidcock, who is currently in second place in the general classification, to not lose too much ground to the leader.
“It was fantastic to win this race,” said Tidball after the event. “Mingay and I often train together and we did a great job managing to maintain the advantage over the chasers. This has been my best race of the year so far and right now I am really happy for this success, which is important for me and for the team. It’s a victory that has paid off for all the work I’ve done and has given me confidence for upcoming summer events.”
